Psychotherapeutic Treatment – Medications If Needed

For people who struggle with dual diagnosis (substance abuse and one or more co-occurring mental health disorders), it’s important that they seek treatment that includes proper medication management from a licensed psychiatric professional. Psychotherapeutic treatment and proper medication management is an essential part of the recovery process for many people struggling with substance abuse, and without the right medication, treatment may not be successful.

Unfortunately, many people don’t get the help they need. Some enter a treatment center that doesn’t have a psychiatrist on staff while others enter treatment centers that don’t allow psychiatric medications. However, without properly managing their symptoms through medication, people struggling with psychiatric disorders are very unlikely to recovery from either the psychiatric disorder or their addiction.

People struggling with co-occurring disorders must get the proper diagnosis and receive comprehensive treatment for both their substance abuse and mental health issues simultaneously, including medication management and psychotherapeutic treatment.

At Turning Point Treatment Center, we’re committed to getting each client the help they need to live a life of recovery. As part of the intake process, all clients undergo Psychiatric Evaluations and Dual Diagnosis Assessments to identify underlying mental health or psychiatric issues prior to treatment.

Once any psychiatric issues have been identified, clients meet with their treatment team to develop an individualized treatment plan that addresses both their mental health and substance abuse issues. During treatment, clients meet regularly with their psychiatrist to ensure they’re receiving the right psychotherapeutic treatment and medication management to allow them to fully engage in the treatment process.

While in treatment, clients will get the opportunity to learn about their dual diagnosis and how to manage the symptoms of their mental health issues. When treatment is complete, Turning Point will work with clients to get referrals to local psychiatrists and mental health professionals to ensure each client receives uninterrupted medication management post treatment.

If you or a loved one is struggling with substance abuse and mental health issues, treatment might be the answer.
