FAMLY DRUG TREATMENT PROGRAM

FAMILY PROGRAM - Addiction to alcohol or other drugs is an illness that has a profound effect on both the individual and his or her family members. An addicted person's life becomes progressively more self-destructive. Because the illness is insidious, the alcoholic/addict's life is affected physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually, the entire family is usually caught up in the destructive progression of the disease. Living with an alcoholic /addict can be a chaotic, unpredictable experience. Turning Point Treatment Center incorporates family programs in all its treatment modalities.

FAMILY PROGRAM FOCUS - Turning Point Treatment Center offers education and support for family members and others who are significant to the person addicted to alcohol and other drugs. We encourage family members or significant others/friends of our patients to attend the program to learn how the disease has affected them.

The Family Drug Treatment Program includes lectures and films about various dynamics of the disease, group therapy sessions, discussion groups, and other activities. Group therapy sessions allow participants to share their feelings and concerns about how the disease has affected them. Discussion groups help participants understand their own powerlessness and inability to manage the disease. Patients and family members communicate about how the disease has affected each of them with the goal of starting the process of healing.

The focus is on family roles and improving communication skills. Lectures, readings, small and large group discussions and role-playing activities help participants develop skills and tools they can use in everyday life.

AL-ANON and NAR-ANON Participation - We encourage family members to attend their local Al-Anon meetings for continuing support. Unlike AA or NA, Al-Anon is strictly for the family members of alcoholics/addicts. At these meetings members share their experience, strength and hope with others who have similar difficulties. Support and often-times lifelong friendships are forged during these critical passages in a family's struggle with addiction. Your local phone book will have listings for Al-Anon.

Drug Rehab Aftercare

Once the initial phase of our drug treatment program is completed, we provide the choice of drug rehab aftercare for those who want extra support during the transition from rehab back into the “real world”.  We suggest drug rehab aftercare for all of our clients, because it keeps people more accountable to their actions.  Our drug rehab aftercare program includes weekly or bi-weekly check-ins with the client’s primary treatment facilitator to ensure that he or she remains open and honest.  We also offer alumni the opportunity to be included in group therapy sessions and selected activities at our treatment centers so that the residential clients can see examples of successfully recovering addicts and alcoholics.  For us at Turning Point, we believe that the drug rehab aftercare program is one of the most important parts of the treatment process because it is usually in early recovery when an addict or alcohol relapses and returns to old habits.  If an individual is dedicated to staying clean and sober then the drug rehab aftercare program is the best opportunity to secure  long-term sobriety.
